Surprise winter storm shuts down schools in North Alabama

FLORENCE, AL (WBRC) - A surprise winter storm affected parts of north Alabama, Monday.

Schools shut down in several places. The University of North Alabama canceled classes.

Several roads were closed because of ice, including I-565 in Huntsville. Those roads have since re-opened.

Students took advantage of canceled classes, while waiting on rides from school.
