Jeffco interim finance director says big cuts needed to bring back sheriff's employees

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) Jefferson County's interim finance director, Travis Hulsey, says about $3.1 million must be slashed from the budget to come up with money to bring back laid-off sheriff's office employees.

Sheriff Mike Hale says he only needs $1.2 million to re-employ 13 sworn deputies and 21 civilian employees.

Hulsey says one option to pay for the return of sheriff's office workers is a two percent budget reduction for all county departments.
